Welcome to Parkwood Health & Fitness Swim School. Our children's swimming lessons are split into multiple stages. Each stage rewards young swimmers for developing their skills, helping them become confident in the water.
We are proud to partner with Swim England to deliver their Learn to Swim programme within the club. We offer small grouped classes with only 4 pupils in all our classes.
PARENT & BABY
Introduce your baby to swimming in our three to 18 month old classes or our toddler lessons 18-36 months. We want your little one to have a positive experience, which is why our programme is centred around fun and games. The goal of these lessons is to make children and parents comfortable in the water together. Building water confidence is the key skill to these lessons thereby providing a strong foundation to your child's swimming journey.
PRE-SCHOOL
Our Preschool Swimming lessons are for children aged 3 to 4 year olds, who are old enough to follow instructions and move independently in the water. We aim to build their confidence in the water by developing their skills to prepare them for the next stage of their swimming journey.
Stage 1
If your child has not taken swimming lessons before and is of school age then Stage 1 is the first step in our learn to swim journey. Using a games led approach, we focus on getting your children comfortable in the water. We teach your children to move in all directions, get water on their face, blow bubbles and understand buoyancy.
Stage 2
Stage 2 is designed for Children who can jump into the water without assistance from an Adult and can travel 5m on their front and back. In Stage 2 we introduce aquatic breathing and basic aquatic skills. Being confident with the face in the water, or having water on the face, is crucial to stroke development.
Stage 3
Stage 3 is designed for children who can swim on their front and back 10m unaided and fully submerge to pick up an object in shallow water. Stage 3 swimmers will develop their kicks, on both their front and their back. They streamline through push and glides, whilst also swimming underwater. This helps develop skills for a number of different disciplines.
Stage 4
Stage 4 is designed for children who can Kick for 10m in each of the 4 strokes (Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly). Stage 4 sees swimmers developing their stroke technique for all four strokes and further develop push and glides, while also being introduced to sculling. They will develop an understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills and should swim 10m to the Swim England Expected Standards.
Stage 5
Stage 5 is designed for Children who can tread water for 30 seconds, Swim 10m of each four strokes (Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly) and perform a handstand underwater which can be held for 3 seconds. Stage 5 swimmers will develop their skills in treading water, learn the correct arm pulls for all four strokes and learn how to do somersaults.
