Stronger! Fitter! Healthier Members!

Read this story from one of our members, Mark who has been training with our Fitness Manager, Dan Gollop for a year! This is why we love what we do!

"I joined Parkwood in August last year primarily to see if I could regain some fitness after a leg injury (ACL rupture and grade 2 hamstring tear). At the start, I had a very weak leg, knee and back pain. I could only really use the bike and I couldn’t achieve a single hamstring curl without weight.

I worked with Dan, who developed a rehab programme for me, initially getting movement into the leg progressing on to a strength programme after about 4 months. I have weekly Personal Training sessions with Dan, who has set me a plan to work with outside of these sessions & committed to about four gym sessions a week.

A year on here are some of my results:

August 2018 - 59 years old.
Single leg hamstring curl - Unachievable with zero weight.
Deadlift - Unachievable.
Leg press - Unachievable due to knee pain.
Weight - 118Kg.

August 2019 - 60 years old
Single leg hamstring curl - 3 sets of 10 @ 34kg.
Deadlift - 3 sets of 10 @ 107kg.
Single leg press 3 sets of 10 @ 142.5kg.
Weight 107.5 kg.
I feel stronger, I walk and feel better and have no knee or leg pain.

I have found my year at Parkwood to be very inspiring. There is a good caring team and I feel the gym is not just a collection of machines but somewhere I can challenge and achieve my goals. I am truly amazed by the results and thank Dan for being a really important part of that.
